Stavros beach
Stavros is a seaside village 17 km northeast of Chania, with 320 inhabitants (2001).
It is a tourist resort with many hotels, apartments, villas for rent, supermarkets and restaurants. In the area of Stavros there are two beaches. The main beach with blue flag, white sand and turquoise water, lies at the foot of the mountain where was filmed the scene with Anthony Quinn, dancing the famous sirtaki of Alexis Zorba. The beach is within a bay, completely sheltered from the winds. It is ideal for windy days at Crete. The beach is well organized with sun beds, umbrellas, showers, lifeguard, and in a short distance there are restaurants. Adjacent to the beach there is the picturesque harbor area. The second beach of Stavros (Thick Sand- Pachia Ammos) is located 300m west of the main beach. This beach consists of thick sand and there are a few rocks. Pachia Ammos is an organized beach too with sun beds, umbrellas, showers and a canteen. Stavros is a resort area which is attractive for family holidays at Crete.
