Preveli Monastery beach
The beach of Preveli Monastery is located 34km south of Rethymnon. This beach is on the list of the 10 best beaches in Crete. The beach of Preveli is located at the exit of the imposing Kourtaliotiko gorge, where the River Megas Potamos passes.
At the estuaries of the River there is a palm forest that creates a tropical landscape. The beach is sandy and the bottom of the sea has pebbles. Canoes are rented at the River’s beach.
You can access Preveli beach on foot through a path that begins after the Lower Preveli Monastery and it takes about 15 minutes or an alternative path from Drymiskiano sandy beach that is just 5 minutes walk. Note that if you want to make beautiful photos you should choose the time-consuming option. There are small boats that sail from Agia Galini or Plakias to Preveli beach.
