Agiofaragko beach
The fantastic beach Agiofarago is located 74 km south of the city of Heraklion. It is a small beautiful beach at the exit of the homonymous gorge that takes its name from the saints who lived as monks in the rocks of the region.
To reach the beach follow the signs from the Monastery Odigitrias and after 6 km dirt road park your car in a vacant plot with trees and dew, and continue to 1500 meters (25 minutes) easy hike. At the end of the route pops up the beache that will make you forget the fatigue of the journey. On the beach there are no facilities (chairs, umbrellas, etc. ) and certainly not canteen, so you must carry the necessary and essential water. Starting on the beach at the beginning of our journey, we find the church of Agia Kyriaki is in a cave! Halfway through is the church of St. Anthony who also lies partly in a cave and was the center of ascetics in the region. Agios Antonios and find a well with water that you can use. The beach is Agiofaragkou with small pebbles and crystal clear waters. In the western part of the beach formed a gorgeous arch, beneath which you can swim. The beach is not allowed to the nudists, as respect for the monks. Very close to the beach there are some trees under which some visitors going camping. Crowded months, especially on weekends, at the beach there are many people who alters sometimes the pure beauty of the environment. In the eastern part of the beach there is a path which leads to brackish lake Vourvoulitis which communicate underwater with the open sea. The view from there is fantastic a picture but remember that you need athletic shoes to get in there and do not try downhill on the lake unless you have knowledge of climbing. Wish you good dives.
